Default Your thoughts on "Fringe", vs. "Supernatural", vs. the "X-Files"

I work nights and have kids. Consequently, I don't get to watch a lot of TV, even if I'd like to. And so, if I want to watch a show, I'll buy it by the season, on DVD. (For the money : hours of entertainment ratio, no movie release can beat this)

I've got the complete Buffy, Angel, Firefly, M*A*S*H, most of X-Files (up to season 8, currently), House, and others. My BSG collection was complete 'til "The Plan" came out.

I've not been able to sample "Fringe" at all. "Supernatural", I was fortunate to be able to get the pilot ep. for free on iTunes. (And watch it on my iPod at three in the wee)

What do you think about these two series, "Fringe" and "Supernatural"? Worth watching?

I've seen the entire first season of fringe and I like it alot, a few loose episodes but very likable characters. Especially Walter, he's awesome as the mad scientist. I think fringe is less scary and more comedic than Supernatural.

I prefer Supernatural over Fringe but that's only because I appreciate one flavor more than the other. Fringe is a little more comedic, as Niklas said. Supernatural is more serious, and what comedy it DOES have is really good. IE Dean's "pie" kick.

You should just eventually watch both, haha. But I'd recommend Supernatural first.

I was a little bored with Fringe when it first started
but now I love the show.

Fringe is a good modern version of the X-Files, without so much the conspiracy and all of the freakish science. I've been enjoying it since day one.

Supernatural is kind of like your Buffy alternative. Not to mention it has an awesome soundtrack in every episode.

Both are definitely worth watching.

There are a bunch of funny things in Supernatural that they've carried through the series. I'm a big fan of it and how immature they can be for the laughs. A great part is a season 4 episode with Dean playing a leg guitar singing along to Eye of the Tiger. My plan is to catch up with Fringe on disc and then watch season two.

Thanks guys, for providing me something to go off of. At least, neither has degenerated into another "Alone", or into Super-Spooky 90210.

Supernatural In My Not So Humble Opinion is one of the best shows on TV. At least it is my favorite show. Each season finds some way to top the next. It can be funny when it wants to be (i.e. last week's episode); but more or less it is a serious show. I enjoyed Fringe last season; but this season I've fallen behind (b/c of work) and haven't really felt the need to get caught up. If you can only watch one or the other make it Supernatural.

I personally like Supernatural because of the myths involved in alot of the episodes.

I've never watched Fringe, so I can't offer an opinion on that.

You can catch up on it here from 11 episodes of Season 1 and the recent ones of Season 2 -- http://www.thewb.com/shows/fringe
