Whenever Blizzard announces a big change (i.e. Pet Store, PvE to PvP, Faction Changes) there is always going to be those that criticize and talk about "the slipper slope" and those that defend and say the change isn't a big deal or was a long time coming. So the question is "Is there any change that would make you quit the game outright?" And what are your thoughts on some of the most recent changes. Are they for the good, the bad, or a mix of both.

I play Warcraftr for fun, even if other people have access to things I don't. So even if Blizzard were to offer top end gear for cash, I would still play.
Basically, I'll stop playing WoW when it becomes "unfun". If Blizzard selling gear for cash made raiding become non-existant, I might get bored. Boredom = me quitting.

at the end of the day most of the stuff Blizz has introduced has been requested by the players themselves. I will be making a thread entitled What next from blizz very soon regarding my predictions in the very near future.

If they ever make it so you can buy functional items (gear, weapons, badges, arena points, characters, etc) with real money. I quit playing Magic: The Gathering because whoever had more money to put into their deck would win, and if WoW ever becomes that, I'm out.

If my past history with MMOs is any example, the only thing Blizzard could do that would make me quit would be cancelling the game. Beyond that, if a game showed up that my wife and I enjoy more then we would probably quit WoW.

I've had to really reevaluate what I want from the game because of Blizzards change in direction a number of times. I do think they have made some mistakes in all the changes over the last year.. but it's their game to nurture or destroy as they see fit.

As a few have mentioned, the only thing that Blizzard could do to make me quit is introduce a paid-gameplay feature. Changing classes, instant-80'ing characters, paying for gear and the like. Those are all things that nurture a population of rich, clueless players that would rather pay to be given things than play for them.
It's important to note that I doubt Blizzard will ever introduce any of the features I mentioned above.

The only thing that could make me quit WoW on a permanent basis is a better game. There just hasn't been an MMO that I enjoy as much as WoW.
I usually stop playing during the school semester to focus on my studies though. |

As far as the OP goes - I'm not sure what Blizzard could implement that would drive me away. It would mostly depend on the guild that I am in. When they go, I'll probably drift away as well. So things like PvE->PvP transfers, faction/race transfers, in-game pets, badge system changes - I don't care about any of that, because at the end of the day it doesn't ruin my fun. Bliz could make gear for sale and it wouldn't bother me as long as I don't HAVE to have that in order to play.

I played Magic at my old job and since we were all nerds with money we tried to out do each other with the super OP cards that keep coming out. We still got our butts kicked a lot because any player that plays well knows how to counter OP cards. Cards that cancel over powered cards are cheap so counter spells were pretty valuable to nullify players who stack stupid OP decks.
As far as Blizzard putting in game items for real money, as long as they are cosmetic I could care less. If they offered a service where you could buy a ready made level 60 if you have several level 80's I would be all over that. There will always be conflict between the players who wear a diaper and eat hot pockets and farm 24/7 vs those who play nowhere near as much. I think Blizzard has done a great job balancing between the two. |
