Default Guidelines, Announcements, and other Poop.

Ported directly from our old format but still very relevant.

Greetings to all and welcome to the Extra Life Forums...

The following post defines the nature of the present forums and the Guidelines that exist in it. We strongly suggest you read this section, it is assumed that all members are aware of the Guidelines established here. Damn near all of it is simple common sense. I stole these from Obsidian for the BASIC groundwork here. YEAH!!! Time to get a grip people, EVERTHING on the net is stolen from somewhere else... and there is no Santa either.

SHARE AND ENJOY.
Basically, we're all here to have a good time. You don't have to smile all the time, but you are required to do so when Scott is drinking. He is a MEAN drunk, trust me.

THIS AIN'T THE WILDS OF ALABAMA, DID I JUST HEAR BANJOS?!?
We assume that if you can use the internet, you are aware of the basic rules of social interaction. Remember them.

PLEASE PARTICIPATE.
If you register in the EL Forums, the least you can do is participate in the community. If you’re not really planning to EVER participate at all, then don’t register. Yeah... I know it is mean, but hey so is life.

EXTRALIFERS ARE THE ROXXORS!!!
The Moderator is authorized and expected to make decisions based on their judgment and common sense, because we all know that situations will arise in which the rules are not as clear as it would seem. In such cases, the Moderator has the final say. MUHAHAHAHAHHAH!!!

BUT, WHO WATCHES THE WATCHMEN?
Scott does. If you feel your cause is just and that the Moderator is not being fair, you can always contact Scott... myextralife@gmail.com. Lace the email with Porn references so Scott will open it.

AND WHO WATCHES COMMANDER SCOTTINSTEIN?
Nobody does, Scott holds the right to do whatever in wants in his piece of the digital world. He can ban, delete posts or whatever with no need whatsoever to justify himself.

YOU BREAK IT, YOU BUY THE DAMN THING.
Any attempt to alter, hack, damage, destroy and simply mess around with the Website and/or its Forums will result in immediate banning. They exist for your entertainment, and you don’t even have to take care of them.

ARGUING WITH FREAKING RETARDS!
Don’t take these forums, its members or yourself too seriously. Shrug off insults with a laugh or go play a FPS to blow off steam. Chances are, most people here don’t know you, so don’t take things personally. And if you do know each other, then you can solve your issues in person. Remember, if you seriously main or harm a person BLAME it all on videogames.

TRY TO KEEP IT PG-13, YA F@%#ING GOT THAT?!?
Use of curse words is not forbidden, but is regulated. Try not to curse too much, or for no reason at all. Use of curse words with the intention of insulting another member is not allowed. If you’re going to insult somebody, at least be creative about it.

HE SAID, SHE SAID, THEY ALL SAID.
No flaming... ok, TRY not to flame. You have a right to disagree, but not to fight. If you find yourself unable to express your opinions or sustain discussions in a civilized manner, then we think you might need a good beating.

USE PICS, DON'T PAINT A DAMN MURAL.
Your avatars, signatures and such should be kept to a reasonable size. The Forum restricts these elements to 160x160 190kb, but you are expected to limit yourself also. If you’re going to post an image, make sure it isn’t so large it just doesn’t fit in the forum window. If your image is big, just make a thumbnail and place a link to the image. If we consider your graphics unacceptable, we will ask you to change them.

Please DO NOT use ANNOYINGLY animated Avatars or Signatures with contrasted colors created to make the viewer's brain explode. Doing so will make baby Buddha/Jesus/Kittens/Rock/Lamp cry, and you don't want to make them cry ... under that calm exterior is a very, very pissed-off entity, and it knows where you live

The Commander Scottinstein retains the right to add, modify, update, remove or change rules as he sees fit. He will let you know if he does it, though.

Addendum by AfterSpencer

In light of recent events, and in the interest of transparency, it is time for an update to the forum guidelines.

Scott would like to take a more hands-off approach to management of these forums as such the following will be effective immediately:

1) Don't bug Scott! (aka ExtraLife) All questions about the forums will go to the mods. Scott is a busy guy and doesn't have the time to deal with all of the little problems that arise around here. Which leads to....

2) Got a question/comment/concern - Contact your friendly neighborhood moderator. All of us are more than happy to help in any way we can. If we can't help we will contact Scott. Along the same lines...

3) Don't like what the mod did? Go to the other mods - There are a bunch of us, so if you are able to convince the majority of us that your position is correct, you win. Call it a balance of powers.

4) This is your place. As such, we depend on you guys to help us take good care of it. We cannot be in every place at every time and we cannot read everything - if you see something that looks inappropriate or Spamtastic let the mods know by hitting the "Report" button or e-mailing one of us.

In general naughty behavior will be dealt with in this way: First you will be warned either in a post or in an e-mail. More trouble will lead to a two-week "time-out" from the forums. After that if more trouble comes our way the offender will be removed permanently.

Updated 9/10/2008 by Zyx.

The other Mods and I have decided that it has come to the point where we need to start codifying some rules here, and to start banning some troublemakers. I’m probably the most lenient of the mods, but even I’m started to get tired of some of the stuff I’m seeing. To quote a post from Scott “Had it with dorks. Feel free to ban liberally if people start peeing on the furniture.”

FORUM RULES

1. No Personal Attacks.
If you disagree with a poster’s position on a subject, it’s fine to disagree with them and state why. We’re getting real tired of the snide and passive-aggressive comments being made by certain people. Acting like a douchebag toward others ends now.

2. No Excessive Swearing and Cursing
Everyone can appreciate an F-Bomb used sparing to add attention to a sentence, but six lines of curse word gibberish ends now. Get yourself and dictionary and thesaurus and learn some new words so you can communicate like an adult.

3. We have a Debate forum—use it.
No more strife causing discussions or topics regarding “Religion” or “Politics” except in the debate forum. And just because it is a Debate forum doesn’t mean that Rules #1 and Rules #2 don’t still apply.

4. No Fueling Fires
Along the lines of #3, trolling in a thread to start trouble, or adding fuel to a fire already going on, is going to get you banned--quickly banned.

5. No posting of Porn or Porn related images or links.
This is a forum for all ages. There are plenty of other websites and forums you can go to if this is your thing.

6. Report Posts
If you see Post violating these rules, please report it. Many times the mods don’t have the time to read through all the threads (or perhaps the subject line doesn’t interest us). Responding to a 'questionable' thread, rather than reporting it (i.e. violating Rule #4), is going to get you in trouble too.

Go against these rules and this is what ‘most-likely’ will happen:
1st Transgression: A Warning
2nd Transgression: A Two Week Vacation
3rd Transgression: Permanent Ban

If you’re new to the forum and decide to violate these rules right off the bat, depending on what you do, chances are we’ll just permanently ban you outright. Those who have been here a while will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
