Post Win7 has rings on the tablet pointer!

So you just installed Windows 7 and wanted to jump right into Photoshop or Painter. Or wanted to try out the built in handwriting tools they have when you install your tablet.

Well, here's how you turn those annoying splash rings off when you're using your pen on your tablet:
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Scroll down to Tablet PC Input Service (Not TabletServiceWacom) -> Stop Service.
It's also set to start Automatically, so you may want to go into the Properties and Disable the Startup.

And there ya go for you Windows 7 people. This probably also includes the Vista crowd as well, but I don't have Vista just Windows 7. So there you go!

Sounds like something worth doing for all non-tablet owners. Complete waste of memory and processing power for something that most people don't need. grrr, will MS ever learn to have everything turned off by default?

They turn things on like that by default to make things easier for end users. With the service turned on does not mean its even doing anything.

P.S. I checked and on my install its stopped by default. And its set to "Manual" under services.

I imagine it only turns on when it's needed. Oh, and MS isn't the only ones to make automatic services, Google and Apple do the same thing. It's one of many reasons I like to avoid installing applications from them. I do install Chrome for my web development, though, and Quicktime from Apple, which can thankfully be avoided in Windows 7 due to the new codec support. Still, both of those require extra work to make them not run background services on startup.

THANKS!!!

I absolutely hate it when working in Photoshop and Lightroom, and didn't know how to shut it off.
