I'm loving the first book right now. It's good. I'm a little over halfway through. He's making me very excited about the Wheel of Time.

Indeed...after tearing through the whole trilogy, even more so.

So many clues he leaves in the first book as to what's REALLY going on.....

"Always another Secret...."

Enjoy them! The last book in the trilogy just came out in Paperback.

There is a two book "series" that I read that was decent but nothing nearly as good as WoT or A Song of Ice and Fire. It is called the Innocent Mage and I think the second book is Awakened Mage. They are kind of childish but fast reads and entertaining at least. I know you are looking for High Fantasy but a Dark Fantasy set I liked is The Black Company. I suggest those books as they were refreshing after only reading High Fantasy.

Seconded on both counts. I read Innocent Mage and Awakened Mage a couple of months ago. The Black Company may be one of my favorite series of all time.

It's amazing to actually read a series that actually sounds like he PLANNED for it to be multiple parts. I mean, I've read so many fantasy novels that had endings that wrapped up rather nicely and then the author just wrote another book anyway adding something to the carnage so that he could continue the story (not Robert Jordan... he did a good job of planning).

Anyway, the second book was amazing and I am SHOCKED at what happened. It was so surprising.

I was a big fan of the Dragonlance series...good times...

The forgotten realm stuff was cool too.

Jim butchers Codex Alera series starts with Furies of Calderon, then Covenants by Lorna Freeman, The Redemption of Althalus by David and Leigh Eddings, The Fifth Ring by Mitchell Graham a little post apocalyptic but good, The Name of the Wind is a good read its by Patrick Rothfuss, The Warded Man by peter V. Brett.

that should get you started on some good series if you haven't already.
